Early in 1990 Essential Oil Industry of Tasmania (EOT) received feedback from one of it’s major purchasers, requesting information about a pesticide residue it had detected in the oil. This was the first incentive to critically assess the implications of the use of pesticides in essential oil crops. Since then, market representatives have repeatedly requested that oils purchased are accompanied by certification detailing analytical screening for pesticide contamination.
